Historical
We are passionate about history. Historical research is the common thread that connects all of The History Group’s practice areas. We have seen the contribution that the past can make to both the present and the future and it is for this reason that we are dedicated to recording history.
Our experience enables us to meet the challenges of any subject matter and we place great value in our contribution to the historical narrative of our generation and generations passed. We know that the quality of our research products is paramount to the success of our organization and we strive to maintain only the highest standard of historical research.
“The worlds battlefields have been in the heart chiefly; more heroism has been displayed in the households and the closet, than on the most memorable battlefields in history” - Henry Ward Beecher
ARCHIVAL RESEARCH
There is something very rewarding about blowing the dust off an old file and bringing information from the past into the present. Our researchers have discovered a plethora of fascinating details in our clients’ archives and every new research project is an incredible foray into a rich legacy. Working with archival files is a uniquely rewarding aspect to historical research that all of our researchers welcome.
The History Group knows how to navigate an archive to extract many types of information. Our background in archival research is extensive as our team members have worked in private archives, city and municipal archives, provincial archives, and national archives. From the smallest fond to the largest repository, we are deeply inspired by the opportunity to work with archival files.
GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH
Each of us is connected to a history that is uniquely ours. Within each one of us lies a sense of ancestry and a wonder about the identity of those who paved the way for our arrival into the world. For some of us, a genealogy can add to the richness of family collection and become a wonderful heirloom for future generations. For others, genealogy can lead to the resolution of important legal and financial matters.
At The History Group, we apply our knowledge and experience with genealogical records to design research plans that meet the depth of information requested by a variety of client types. We have worked in private archives, city and municipal archives, provincial archives and national archives, including Library and Archives Canada and the Public Records Office in London
Our researchers have expertise with the following types of records:
- Marriage, birth and death records
- Census records
- Immigration records
- Citizenship and naturalization records
- Military records
- Land records
- First Nations genealogy and lineage records
