Our Mission

The History Group was founded in 2003, to assist clients in leveraging history to meet a range of operational needs. Our team is committed to making history accessible and we strive to create a work environment that is respecful, encouraging, and united. We recognize the role that history can play in raising awareness to key issues and a portion of our business time is dedicated to making our world a better place.

The great force of history is that we carry it with us, are unconsciously controlled by it in many ways, and history is literally present in all that we do” – James Baldwin

Our team is dedicated to the following key purposes:

  • Documenting the histories of our clients as part of the greater Canadian stories of the past
  • Dedicating a portion of our business time to community projects by raising public awareness through history
  • Fostering a challenging work environment for team members that enables them to achieve their professional goals within the pursuits of our organization
  • Creating opportunities for graduates of arts programs seeking their first professional position

These key purposes were inspired by our awareness of the following:

  • Canadian businesses make substantial contributions to our national narrative with stories of sacrifice, determination, and achievement. Canadian businesses are created and operated by everyday people who do extraordinary things.
  • Government policy impacts history and government policy is impacted by history. Federal, provincial, and muncipal records are a major contributor to the historical narrative.
  • Individual people seek to understand where they have come from. Genealogy is instrumental in creating a rich family legacy.
  • Hiring employees demands a responsible approach to leadership. Companies with a commitment to mutual learning and achievement can achieve greatness.
  • Students graduating with arts degrees, interested in historical research, should be granted the opportunity to fulfill their passion professionally.
